Reception children
Remote Learning
We are going to be using the Seesaw website/app to support remote learning. We are sending home log in information in the form of a QR code. There will be weekly activities assigned based around the week's topic. You can then upload evidence of the work completed at home so we can see! There will be a pack of work compiled which can be collected from school, including a reading book. Please collect from outside the School Office on Friday's between 9.15 - 9.40am. The QR code can be found in the pack.

Phonics - recap sounds previously learnt (see below). Make and read CVC words with known sounds.
Literacy - draw a picture of your Christmas. Add details to make it interesting. Write a sentence about your picture. Say your sentence to an adult, then say each word slowly and write known sounds. Your adult can remind you to add finger spaces between words and a full stop at the end. Remember to only use capital letters for names and the start of your sentence. (NB: adults - say the letter sounds not names when supporting your child. The children are at different levels with their writing so your child may only be able to recognise initial letter sounds or you could choose to write a label rather than a sentence).
Numeracy - recap number recognition to 5. Count on and back to 5. Count a set of objects up to 5. Find one more / one less to 5. Split numbers up to 5 into 2 parts, e.g 5 can be split into 4 and 1, 3 and 2 etc. You can do this with practical objects, e.g. use 5 cars and split the cars into 2 groups and find different ways to do this.
The following websites have useful activities:
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/ladybird-spots - variety of counting and ordering activities
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSlA-u_ABmU - Jack Hartman subitze to 5
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/ordering-and-sequencing/caterpillar-ordering - variety of counting and ordering activites
If you have a board game at home with a dice, play with your grown up and see if you can recognise the number on the dice.

Happy New Year!
Happy new year to you all. We are back to home learning!
At the end of this week we will send home a learning pack containing worksheets to complete, a whiteboard and a pencil case. (Please wait for a message to see when to collect)
Work will be uploaded here on the class page for now but from next week we are moving to a learning platform called 'Seesaw'.
This week's activities:
Literacy: We would like you to write a recount about your Christmas holidays. Can you challenge yourself to use adjectives (describing words) to make your sentences more interesting? Can you write a slightly longer sentence using the word 'and'?
Numeracy: While you are waiting for your home learning packs, you can use the Numbots app and solve the number sentences below using a number line. You can make your own number line from 0-20 and make it as colourful as you like!
7 + 3= 9 + 3 = 5 + 4 = 9 + 2 = 11 + 9 = 10 + 4 =
Can you use counters or draw these objects to solve the word problems:
There are 6 boys on the bus. 2 more boys get on.
How many boys are on the bus now?
There are 3 girls in the class. 6 more girls enter.
How many girls are in the class?
There are 4 apples in the bowl. I buy 3 more apples.
How many apples are there now?
There are 9 cars in the box. I add 1 more car.
How many cars are in the box now?
There are 7 stars in the sky. I spot 3 more.
How many stars are in the sky?
Phonics: This week I would like you to revise all of the single letter sounds in the alphabet. You could practice writing them onto individual cards or pieces of paper. Can you put them together to make words? Write a list of the words that you make. Can you make words with three sounds? Try making words with four sounds!
(Phonic videos are being made this week to support your learning of Sounds Write)
Welcome back! This term our topic is ‘Imaginary Worlds’. At the beginning of the term we will be reflecting on Christmas, focusing on toys. During the first week back the children will have the opportunity to bring in a toy they received for Christmas. A timetable for this will be on the classroom window so please look out for it. We will also be learning about dinosaurs, superheroes and pirates! We will be celebrating Chinese New Year too. This year we are taking a different approach to how we teach number skills in Reception. We are following the White Rose programme which involves looking at ‘mastery’ of numbers. This includes looking at the whole number – subitising, breaking into parts etc.

A message to everyone:
Please remember to read with your child at least 3 times a week (Reception) and 5 times a week (Year 1) as we really want to win Orlando the Reading Owl! Don't forget to learn the Words of the Week/Tricky Words with your child. Can they read them? Spell them? Put them in a sentence?
Year One Children
Now the children are settling into their Year 1 group in Starfish Class, we are developing our independent working skills. Please support them in learning these skills by encouraging your child to manage small acheivable tasks independently, such as dressing and undressing or tidying away their toys.
This term our learning topic is 'Reach for the Stars' and we will be taking the opportunity to learn lots of interesting facts about space. For lots of resources about our topic and everything else visit the Espresso website. Parents have their own log in to use:
username - student3863
password - sandcastle
We will be continuing to use 'Sounds Write' to develop our phonics and our ability to blend sounds together to read and write words.
We continue to develop our number skills using a variety of different methods and will be especially focusing on a thorough understanding of numbers to twenty, including subitising, number recognition and ordering, understanding of greater and less and beginning to calculate number problems including addition and subtraction. We are sending home an individual password for the 'Numbots' number program and would ask you to support your child in developing their skills by regularly using the program at home.
Reading
We are still running the reading challenge to win 'Orlando the Owl'. Please read with your child at least 5 times a week. It is so important for your child to have a good quality reading session to help them become a fluent and confident reader. Don't forget to write in the reading record to say you have read.
As a reminder, please can all children have a named P.E kit in school at all times.
Don't forget to look at 'Tricky Words' books with your children. Can they read them? Can they spell them? Can they put them into a sentence? We will check these with the children in class on Tuesdays when we will also give update the books with new words. Please make sure your child always has their 'tricky word' book in school on this day.
Just a reminder, can all children please have a named P.E kit in school.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
