On this page you will find weekly updates about what the children are learning in literacy, maths and phonics so you can support at home. Our termly curriculum maps provide an outline of what the children will learn across all subjects. More detailed information for a particular subject can be found in the curriculum area of the website.
Week beginning 22nd April
P.E. is on Monday and Wednesday.
Library books are changed on Friday.
In Literacy we will be writing a new version of the traditional tale Jack and the Beanstalk.
We have now completed all Phonics sessions and are focussing on common spelling patterns instead. This week we will focus on words with the soft c (nice, prince) and the ai or ay spelling.
In Maths we will be learning about 3d shapes. We will be revising the names of the common 3d shapes (cube, cuboid, pyramid, sphere, cyliner, cone and triangular prism) and discussing their properties - faces, edges and vertices. In our Mastering Number sessions we will be focussing on adding by bridging through ten (e.g. to calculate 8 + 5 I could split the 5 into 2 and 3. Make 10 first and then add the 3, 8 + 2 = 10. 10 + 3 = 13.

In Literacy we will be starting a unit of work on the traditional tale Jack and the Beanstalk.
We have now completed all Phonics sessions and are focussing on common spelling patterns instead. This week we will focus on words ending with -ed and -ing, and words with the spelling pattern dge and ge.
In Maths we will be learning more about shape. We will be revising the names of all the 2d shapes and knowing how many sides they have. In our Mastering Number sessions we will be focussing on strategies for adding three numbers.

This week we will be having an Art Day and a Design and Technology Day. (Please see App message about bringing in sticks for the Art Day.) We will also be learning about the Christion festival of Easter. We will spend some time reviewing the recent assessment booklets for reading and maths.

In Literacy we will be writing our own stories, a new version of the story of Grandad's Island.
We have now completed all Phonics sessions so we will be moving on to focussing on common spelling patterns. This week we will focus on some common exception words and words with a double consonant - ff, ss, ll and zz.
In Maths we will be learning more about fractions - finding 1/4, 1/2, 1/3 and 3/4 of numbers. In our Mastering Number sessions we will be focussing on doubles and near doubles.

In Literacy we will be planning a new version of the story of Grandad's Island.
In Phonics we will be continuing learning the alternative way of spelling some sounds - ci for the sh sound in special, ti for the sh sound in station, s for the sh sound in sugar and ch for the sh sound in chef.
In Maths we will be assessing all of our work from recent weeks. We will also be completing some Reading assessments.
