Our Summer Term Topic is Seaside and Sunshine.
Week beginning 28th June
In Literacy we are having a focus on reading comprehension and then beginning to learn a little about Jamaica. We will be comparing living in the Caribbean with living in Burnham-on-Sea.
In Phonics we are revising all the different ways of spelling the sound /ae/ - ai as in brain, ay as in clay, ea as in break, a-e as in bake, eigh as in eight, ey as in they, ei as in veil and a as in apron.
In Maths we are practising partitioning numbers in different ways, e.g. 64 could be split into 60 and 4, 50 and 14, 40 and 24, 30 and 34, 20 and 44 and 10 and 54.
In our Number Sense mental maths we are focussing on doubles for numbers 6 - 10.
Week beginning 21st June
In Literacy we are writing our own version of 'The Sand Horse' story changing the character to a different animal.
In Phonics we are learning different ways of spelling the sound /d/ - d as in band, dd as in middle, ed as in played.
In Maths we are thinking about where numbers sit on a number line and which multiple of 10 comes before or after a number, e.g. 34 is between 30 and 40.
In our Number Sense mental maths we are having one last week on subtraction by bridging through 10.
Week beginning 14th June
In Literacy we are reading and discussing a story called 'The Sand Horse'. We are learning the story this week in preparation for writing our own version next week. On our beach trip we will attempt to make our own sand animal.
In Phonics we are learning different ways of spelling the sound /eer/ - ear as in year, eer as in cheer and ere as in here.
In Maths we are revising strategies for addition and subtraction.
In our Number Sense mental maths we are continuing with subtraction by bridging through 10.
Week beginning 7th June
This week we are having a focus on teamwork and well being so we will be completing some different games, activities and challenges to focus on these.
Week beginning 17th May
In Literacy we are finding out a liitle more about the history of Burnham and then writing about when the railway came to Burnham.
In Phonics we are learning different ways of spelling the /t/ sound - t as in cat, tt as in butter, te as in paste and bt as in doubt.
In Maths we are continuing to learn about fractions, with a particular focus on halves, quarters and thirds.
In our Number Sense mental maths we are continuing to practice adding by bridging through ten.
