Our Autumn Term Topic is Castles and Dragons.
Week beginning 1st November
In Literacy we are writing a recount about our Half Term holiday. We will be beginning to learn how to edit our work. We are also going to be finding out about Guy Fawkes and bonfire night traditions.
In Phonics we are learning different ways of spelling the /ar/ sound - ar as in car, a as in path, al as in calm and au as in laugh.
In Maths we are learning about counting on to find the differernce and applying this knowledge to solve simple problems, e.g. 8 children are coming to the party but I only have 5 cakes. How many more do I need?
In our Number Sense mental maths we are learning about '5 and a bit' and how the numbers 6, 7, 8 and 9 are made up of 5 and 1, 5 and 2, 5 and 3 and 5 and 4.
Week beginning 18th October
In Literacy we are writing a recount of last week's visit from a knight. We are also doing some work linked to Geography about the countries, capital cities and castles of the UK.
In Phonics we are learning different ways of spelling the /ue/ sound - ue as in argue, ew as in new, u as in unit and u-e as in tune.
In Maths we are learning strategies for adding three numbers.
In our Number Sense mental maths we are spending a bit more time on addition and subtraction facts for 10.
Week beginning 11th October
In Literacy we are writing questions to ask a knight and then finding out more about knights.
In Phonics we are revising the /oy/ sound - oy as in boy and oi as in coin.
In Maths we are revising counting in tens (10, 20, 30 etc.) and then counting on in tens from any small number (e.g. 11, 21, 31, 41...).
In our Number Sense mental maths we are revising the fact family numbers for 10 (e.g. 6 + 4 = 10, 2 + 8 = 10, 10 - 6 = 4, 10 - 8 = 2).
Week beginning 4th October
In Literacy we are going to be using the information we have learnt to do a piece of extended writing all about castles.
In Phonics we are learning different ways of spelling the /air/ sound - air as in hair, are as in care, ear as in bear and ere as in there.
In Maths we are ordering and comparing numbers. We will be revising the symbols for greater than, less than and equals (> < =).
In our Number Sense mental maths we are having one more week on odd and even numbers and adding and subtracting two.
