Welcome to Dolphin Class
On this page you will find weekly updates about what the children are learning in literacy, maths and phonics so you can support at home. Our termly curriculum maps provide an outline of what the children will learn across all subjects. More detailed information for a particular subject can be found in the curriculum area of the website.
Our PE days this term will be Monday and Wednesday. Please make sure all your child’s clothes are clearly named.

Week beginning 30th January
Phonics
In Phonics we are looking at the sound 's' sound. This includes:
'se' - mouse, house, goose, horse
'ce' - Alice, bounce, fence, force, mince
'c' - acid, city, cellar
'sc' - scene, scissors, science
Maths
In Maths we are looking at:
- First, then, and now stories for addition equations.
- First, then and now stories for subtractions equations.
Literacy
In Literacy we are still focusing on the book 'Hermelin' and will be continuing to look at:
- Writing a letter using sequential language.
Week beginning 23rd January
Phonics
In Phonics we are recapping the sound 'ou'. We are also looking at the sound 's'. This includes:
'ou' - cloud, house, soup, route, double, trouble
's' - cats, sing, sink, stick
'ss' - dress, gossip, kiss, miss
'st' - bristle, whistle, thistle, listen
Maths
In Maths we are looking at:
- Partitioning a whole into two parts and writing the matching subtraction equations.
- Making addition and subtraction stories and writing the matching equations
Literacy
In Literacy we are still focusing on the book 'Hermelin' and will be looking at:
- Analysing the text
- Describing an object using a noun phrase.
- Writing a letter using sequential language.
Week beginning 16th January
Phonics
In Phonics we are looking at spelling words with the 'u' sound and recapping the 'oo' sound.
This includes:
- Looking at the differences between 'oo' and 'oo', e.g. book, and moon.
- 'u', but, cup, luck, run, mug
- 'o', come, mother, other, some, love
- 'ou', double, touch, trouble, young
Maths
In Maths we are looking at:
- Adding to parts together to find the whole (5+2=?)
- Writing equations (4+3=7)
- Finding the missing addend in an equation e.g. (3+?=5)
- Adding 3 parts to find the whole e.g. (3+1+4=?)
Literacy
In Literacy we are still focusing on the book 'Hermelin' and will be looking at:
-Sequencing the story
- Matching up the characters to the items that belong to them
- Using adjectives to describe a character in the book
- Using sequential language e.g. (first, next, then, finally)
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
