Welcome to Dolphin Class
On this page you will find weekly updates about what the children are learning in literacy, maths and phonics so you can support at home. Our termly curriculum maps provide an outline of what the children will learn across all subjects. More detailed information for a particular subject can be found in the curriculum area of the website.
Our PE days this term will be Tuesday and Thursday (external tennis coach outside so ensure your children have suitable footwear). Please make sure all your child’s clothes are clearly named.
For lots of resources about our topic and everything else visit the Espresso website. Parents have their own log in to use:

In Maths we are looking at:
- Using of knowledge of addend plus addend equals the sum. The children are going to be exploring adding the addends together and identifying what the sum would be. Up until now the children have been provided with the equation in different forms e.g part-part whole and bar models, but the children will now explore finding a missing part by using what they already know.

Maths
In Maths we are looking at:
- Using an = sign to show that the whole and sum of the parts are equal.
We will be doing this from practical exploration as well as writing the four matching equations for images, part part whole models and bar models. For example, all of these equations are matching because they are commutative (the two addends can be swapped and the equation will still be equal): 3+4=7 4+3=7 7=4+3 7=3+4

- called
Maths
In Maths we are looking at:
- Partitioning the numbers 6-10 systematically using the squares in our books to record what we find.
- Identifying a missing part when a whole is partitioned into two parts and represent this using a part part whole model and a bar model.
- Combining two parts to make a whole using an expression. For example 2+3 and 3+2 are both expressions and show the commutative law - addends (numbers) can be added together in any order.
Literacy
In Literacy we are continuing to look at the story of 'The Three Little Pigs':
- Describing each of the characters in the story using different adjectives within full written sentences.
- Creating a shared plan of changes to make to the story to use for our shared/guided writing tasks next week.

- Explaining how odd and even numbers can be partitioned as well as deciding whether the parts and whole are odd or even.
- Partitioning the numbers 6-10 in different ways.
