Enrichment House Mornings
Each half term we get together to work in our house teams for learning. These provide opportunities for the children to work cross phase with different peers.
Cross-phase enrichment mornings scheduled each half term provide an excellent framework for driving student collaboration, easing school transitions, and maximising staff expertise. By breaking down age-based silos once every six weeks, we can create highly memorable, high-impact learning experiences.
Key Benefits for Students
- Smoother Phase Transitions: Mixing older and younger students demystifies the next educational stage, reducing academic and social anxiety.
- Leadership and Mentorship: Older pupils develop vital soft skills, character, and responsibility by acting as role models and guiding younger peers.
- Social and Emotional Growth: Students expand their social circles across year groups, building empathy, confidence, and community cohesion.
- Deepened Knowledge Retrieval: Teaching concepts to younger peers forces older students to articulate and consolidate their own understanding.
- Low-Stakes Risk Taking: A relaxed morning atmosphere encourages students to try new skills without fear of failure.
Curriculum & Operational Advantages
- Predictable, Rhythmic Pacing: High-value enrichment days can be difficult to coordinate; scheduling them exactly once per half term embeds them cleanly into the school calendar.
- Optimised Staff Expertise: Teachers can step outside their fixed syllabi to deliver specialised, short-term courses rooted in their authentic passions (e.g., photography, robotics, or forensics).
- Built-In Rest and Reset: Positioning these mornings just before a half-term break offers a constructive outlet for energy and provides opportunities to apply taught skills.
