Welcome to the Governors' section! What Do We Do?
The Governing body is currently made up of 10 people from all areas of the school community. The Chair oversees the meetings consisting of the Vice Chair; Clerk to the Governors; Headteacher; 1x Local Authority Governor, 2x staff Governors; 4x Co-opted Governors; and 2x Parent Governors. We currently have 2 vacancies.
This year we are trialing having monthly Full Governor meetings rather than separate committees so all meetings are Chaired by the Full Chair of Governors (Sam Stockham)
The role of the Governing Body is to be a ‘critical friend’ to the school ensuring the best possible outcomes for all the children and their parents and to work with the Head and Deputy Head to make this happen. They ensure all school policies are met and that educational, social and business targets are kept on track throughout the academic year.
The role of a governor, whilst voluntary, is very rewarding and has an impact upon the day-to-day running of the school. For example, the school build last year had to be discussed and implemented not only by Somerset County Council but also the Governing body who oversaw that budgets, build timetable and safety of the children were all met.
