From the Headteacher’s Desk

As we reach the end of another busy and exciting half term, I want to take a moment to reflect on all the incredible achievements of our school community. It has been a period filled with learning, creativity, and resilience, and I am incredibly proud of the way our pupils and staff have embraced every opportunity.

Celebrating Student Success
Our pupils have excelled across the curriculum, showing their commitment to the school values of being kind, curious and dedicated.  A special mention to all the children who have taken on roles and responsibilities for their exceptional contributions this term.

Highlights from the Half Term

  • House enrichment morning: A fantastic display of teamwork and creativity, examining our school values with children working in house teams across the school.

  • Friendly Faces Training: Year 2 pupils showed remarkable understanding of how they can show kindness and care for others.

  • Phonics in Action sessions: A celebration of the children's phonics knowledge and developing parental awareness of how we teach phonics so that we can work together to get the best outcomes for children.

Staff Achievements
I would also like to acknowledge the dedication of our staff, who continue to provide the highest standards of teaching, care, and support. Their commitment ensures that every child can thrive and reach their full potential.

Looking Ahead
As we head into the half-term break, I encourage everyone to rest, recharge, and enjoy quality time with family and friends. We look forward to welcoming our pupils back, ready to embrace new challenges and opportunities in the next half term. This half term is always so busy but enjoyable with lots of opportunities to celebrate the children together.

Thank you for your continued support in making Burnham On Sea Infant School such a vibrant and thriving community. Together, we are shaping a positive and inspiring learning environment for every child.

Wishing you all a happy and restful half-term!

School In Action Sessions

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our phonics in action sessions last half term.  It was great to have so many of you come in and see lessons first hand which many of you commented was more useful than just attending an information session for parents. Feedback shared included how surprised by the pace and repetition of the sessions you were, how you liked the "tick or fix" and would now use this at home.

You all provided some really useful feedback during our recent parents consultations about how we could improve this further and perhaps make it easier for more parents to attend/benefit.

Ideas included:

 - ensuring there is a 'debrief' session at the end of the session providing an opportunity to ask questions about why teaching was done in a particular way.

- providing recordings of lessons / things that can be done at home to support for those unable to attend

-possibility of morning and afternoon sessions

- possibility of school providing more resources (not just reading books) for parents to use at home

We are looking into all of these for our next School in Action sessions.

This half term our 'In Action' sessions will be looking at maths.

We will have dedicated sessions for each year group where you will be able to see how we teach different aspects of maths and the resources and vocabulary we use. The focus of these sessions this half term will be on place value (and the understanding of number), the importance of fluency and number facts along with addition and subtraction (using part part whole, bar models and maths manipulatives to show understanding).

Maths is taught very differently in school and so we hope these upcoming sessions will be really informative.

Dates of sessions will be shared when we return after the holidays.
