PE in Burnham Infants
Playground markings
We are very lucky to have brand new installations on our playgrounds. The children have loved keeping fit and keeping active using the playground markings.
We have 14 fantastic Sports Leaders from Year 1 and 2 who spend one lunchtime a week working alongside Mr Topham supporting children who want to be active and exercise on the playground. They have all been trained with Mrs Ingham and Mr Topham on the activities that could be carried out on each station and are confident and keen to help the school children have fun, be fit and have healthy hearts.
The children have been very positive and love to tell their teachers and friends about all the energy they have burned!
The time spent being active on the playground markings are recorded and at the end of each half term the boy and girl from Year 1 or 2 with the most minutes will be rewarded with an amazing trophy!
Yoga
We have just introduced Yoga to all of our children during PE lessons. Their response has been fantastic!
We are focusing on making sure children are happy and calm in school and 'mindful'. We want children to be aware of how they are feeling and aware of their thoughts. Through teaching yoga and mindfulness we want children to be able to have the opportunity for space and calm and connect with themselves in a positive way.
Yoga is our time for playing, for laughing, for releasing tension and peace.
Cricket
Following the success of the Cricket World Cup this year we jumped at the chance to implement cricket into our PE curriculum.
Year 1 children have been lucky to have a cricket coach from Somerset Cricket come and teach them lots of ball skills and team work!
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
